I built muscle as a naturally skinny guy by focusing on consistent training, eating enough, improving my strength and staying patient with the process.

Eating Enough Is The Real Challenge
For skinny beginners, the biggest issue usually isn’t training – it’s not eating enough. You need to be in a calorie surplus (eating more than you burn) to gain muscle, and many skinny guys underestimate how much food that actually takes.
How I Built Muscle Naturally
Exercises like squats, deadlifts, bench press, and rows work multiple muscle groups at once and allow you to progressively lift heavier – which is key for building size as a beginner
Don’t Overdo Cardio
Excessive cardio can burn through the calorie surplus you’re trying to build. Keep cardio minimal and prioritize your calorie intake and strength training instead.
Track your Progress
Weigh yourself weekly and track your lifts. If your weight isn’t going up over 2-3 weeks, you’re not eating enough. Increase your calories gradually. For general guidance on resistance training and physical activity, you can also refer to the American College of Sports Medicine
Building muscle as a naturally skinny person takes patience and consistent effort – both in the gym and in the kitchen. Stay consistent, eat enough, and the results will come.
I built muscle by staying consistent with my training and making sure I ate enough to support growth. For more guidance, check our Muscle Groups guide to learn which exercises target each major muscle group
